OTTAWA, March 21, 2011  —  On March 20, the uOttawa team led by professors Marc Charron and Charles Le Blanc of the School of Translation and Interpretation won the sixth Translation Games, hosted by the University. Team members included Loutchka Télémaque, team leader, as well as Marc Villeneuve, Oliver Meyer, Hugues Beaudouin-Dumouchel, Pascal Renard and Scott Irving, who won first prize for English-language translation.

The ten Canadian universities which offer translation programs were all in Ottawa, a Games record and a feather in the organizers’ cap. Participating universities included Concordia, Laval, McGill, York (Glendon College), Montréal, Moncton, Sherbrooke, Québec en Outaouais and the Collège universitaire Saint-Boniface.

Members of the uOttawa team trained hard every Wednesday beginning in January for this competition, which is eagerly anticipated by all institutions offering a translation program. The University of Ottawa team took the cup from defending champions the Université de Montréal, honouring its motto: In labore fructus [Labour brings fruit].

The Games took place in the Arts Building and included translations of songs, ads, comics, cartoons and classics.

It took an excellent organization to deliver these high quality Games. The entire University community can be proud of the results achieved by the committee led by Mélissa Rodrigue and featuring mascot “Gee-nete.”

The University of Ottawa edged out the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface and Concordia University in the final standings. The next Translation Games will take place in the spring of 2012.
