A great success for the inaugural UROP Symposium
OTTAWA, April 12, 2011 — On Tuesday, March 29, the Office of the Vice-President, Research held the first annual Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Symposium. The event was an opportunity for the first 140 UROP scholarship recipients to make a poster presentation of their findings to family, friends, and the rest of University of Ottawa community.
During the Symposium, students also met distinguished guests, including Chad Gaffield, president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Alain Beaudet, president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Gillian Cooper of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and Huguette Labelle and Allan Rock, chancellor and president of the University of Ottawa, respectively.
“As an institute of higher learning and research, we’re responsible for creating strong new scholars,” said Allan Rock. “I was therefore proud to see how interested our students are in research. This promising event was a success, and I want to congratulate all the award recipients.”
