International Year of Chemistry: University of Ottawa welcomes youth

OTTAWA, May 5, 2011  —  The University of Ottawa’s Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with Science Rendezvous, presents Connecting Chemistry with the Community, a free day of activities to mark the International Year of Chemistry.

Various chemistry-related workshops will be offered for children 8 to 13 years of age, to introduce them to the history and applications of chemistry. Participants will be able to enjoy a talk by Professor Frédéric-George Fontaine titled Chemistry in History: A Journey Into Molecular Geopolitics, as well as supervised lab experiments, followed by a magic show. A barbecue lunch and a tour of the University chemistry labs are also scheduled for the day.

When: Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
