Major funding for collaborative health research
OTTAWA, June 10, 2011 — Professor WonSook Lee of the School of Information Technology and Engineering at the University of Ottawa has received half a million dollars in funding through the Collaborative Health Research Projects program, a partnership between the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Professor Lee’s research looks at hip osteoarthritis caused by a condition known as femoracetabular impingement. The project aims to develop computer assisted guidance and visualization software to help clinicians treat this deformity in a more precise and less invasive manner, facilitating and optimizing patient recovery and function.
Collaborative Health Research Projects grants are designed to assist new projects that involve interdisciplinary collaborations between any field of the natural sciences or engineering and the health sciences.
The University of Ottawa, one of Canada’s top research-intensive universities, is working to improve the health of all Canadians through research. We are committed to excellence and encourage an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge creation, which attracts the best academic talent from across Canada and around the world.
