Three University of Ottawa innovators among rising Canadian stars in world health

OTTAWA, June 29, 2011  —  The University of Ottawa is proud to announce that three of its researchers have received grants from Grand Challenges Canada, as part of the first phase of its Canadian Rising Stars in Global Health initiative. Innovative proposals from Gail Webber of the Department of Family Medicine, as well as from Jean-Simon Diallo and Ri-hua Xie of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and the University of Ottawa, were selected among proposals from across the country. Each one will receive a $100,000 grant.

The innovative ideas put forward address obstacles to their implementation, the health systems required to apply their discoveries and effective, low cost marketing of the proposals. Each innovator produced a short video to explain his or her ideas to Canadians.
