OTTAWA, October 25, 2011  —  The Rick Hansen 25^th Anniversary Relay will pass through the University campus on October 26, between 1:30 p.m. and 1:40 p.m.

Faculty of Health Sciences students Élise Desjardins and Marie-Eve Chainey will proudly represent uOttawa by completing the Laurier Avenue segment of the Relay, heading towards King Edward Avenue.

WHAT: Rick Hansen 25^th Anniversary Relay
WHEN: Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 1:30 p.m.
WHERE: Along Laurier Avenue East, heading from Nicholas Street towards King Edward Avenue

They will carry the Rick Hansen Medal to and from Tabaret Hall, both students representing a way of making a difference:

• Empowering Youth: Engaging a new generation to become catalysts for positive change
  Human kinetics student Élise Desjardins will be Team Canada’s young ambassador at the first 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, in Innsbruck, Austria. In addition to guiding and supporting athletes at the Innsbruck games, Élise will be responsible for launching the Olympic culture and education program.

• Promoting Health: Encouraging others to live a healthy, active lifestyle
  Nursing student Marie-Eve Chainey is cofounder of the non-profit Alive to Strive Kidney Fitness Project, which promotes an active lifestyle among kidney disease patients by providing them with fitness grants and weight-loss programs.

The Rick Hansen 25^th Anniversary Relay fully recreates the Man In Motion cross-Canada tour, spanning 12,000 kilometres from coast-to-coast. This time, one man in motion will be represented and celebrated by many in motion; engaging 7,000 participants from across Canada who have made their own difference in the lives of others. The historic journey of making the world more accessible and inclusive continues.
