MEDIA ADVISORY: The kidnapping of Robert Fowler by Al-Qaeda: book launch
OTTAWA, November 15, 2011 — Allan Rock, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Ottawa, and the Graduate School of Public and international Affairs (GSPIA) invite the media to the launch of A Season in Hell: My 130 Days in the Sahara with Al Qaeda by Robert Fowler, author, ex diplomat and GSPIA Senior Fellow.
On December 14, 2008, while on a UN peace mission in Niger, Robert Fowler, his assistant and their driver were kidnapped by Al-Qaeda. The book not only recounts Fowler’s abduction and almost five months in captivity, but also presents his vision of a world now redefined by a clash of civilizations.

Robert Fowler served as Foreign Policy Advisor to three Canadian Prime Ministers. He also served as Canada’s ambassador to the United Nations and Deputy Minister at the Department of National Defence.
