Research information:

Professor Cousins’ primary area of specialization is program evaluation, specifically the use of evaluative knowledge to inform policy and practice. His research includes studies of evaluation use, participatory and collaborative approaches to evaluation and evaluation capacity building. Professor Cousins’ work is interdisciplinary and cuts across professional practice in education, community and social services and health services. He is former Editor-in-chief of the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation and Co-Director of the Centre for Research on Education and Community Services (CRECS) at uOttawa.

My interest focuses on community and participatory approaches with popular civil society, such as people education in health, collaborative ethnography and action-research, which consider unpredictability and uncertainty of contexts in movement.

I had been living many years in the State of Amazonas (Brazil) and collaborate with brazilian and Latin American colleagues.

I work the questions of equality in international collaboration.

In Canada, my work focuses on the contemporary challenges of francophone nursing education with new immigrants and visible minorities, as well as with a new innovative project linking housing and HIV with a Coaltion of community-based organizations in Quebec.

I'm currently examining the role and treatment of information in public policy and operations in criminal justice: statistics, databases, registries, administrative operational data, research results etc. This information arises and is used as evidence in investigations and decisions of a wide range of police, judicial and correctional institutions. I am particulary interested in the validity and reliability of information and of procedures for its use, as well as implications for rights to privacy.
