Research information:

Jacqueline Best's research is in the field of international studies, with a particular interest in global economic issues. She has written on the history of financial governance, as well as on the recent financial crisis. She also studies international organizations such as the World Bank and the IMF, and her current research is on changes in their development policies over the last two decades. She is interested in issues such as the limits of risk management, the challenges of transparency, the problems of results-based management, and the cultural aspects of economic practices (such as consumer debt).

I study a variety of issues relating to democracy and democratization, conflict and violence, and foreign aid and development in Africa (especially Kenya and Malawi), including Canadian foreign policy in these areas. I also have a strong interest in Canadian foreign aid more generally. I am also interested in the politics of sexuality / homosexuality and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in Canada and abroad, including in developing countries.

My career has taken me from boardrooms to classrooms and from the Prime Minister's Office (1993-1997) to the Kennedy School at Harvard (Senior Fellow, Centre of Business and Government, 2002-2004).

I'm a lawyer who is comfortable discussing ethical challenges ( including whistleblowing) governance issues and public policy matters whether within government or the private sector. I'm also a founding member of the Taskforce for Women and Enterprise.

I also research the area of corporate responsibility and that I am currently designing a new law course entitled: The new International Corporate Reality: The Business of Human Rights.
