I work primarily on the conceptual and methodological foundations of cognitive science. My current research projects are focused on three topics: the relationship between cognitive architecture and brain architecture; the relationship between animal and human cognition; and the contribution of cognitive science to our understanding of aesthetic experience.Area(s) of expertise:

Moral psychology: the study of the psychological processes that constitute moral agency. I have also written on such topics in applied ethics as physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia, genetic engineering, the acquisition of organs for transplantation, and advertising. I have theoretical interests in many topics, especially autonomy.
