Research information:

I am interested in children's cognitive development. More specifically, I am researching the development of future thinking and planning skills, and children's understanding of their own and others' minds ("theory of mind") - particularly as this last skill applies to explaining and making sense of their own and others' actions as a function of mental states (e.g., beliefs, desires, and intentions).

Our first line of work focuses around the brain circuits involved in Depression.  In particular, Our research focuses on determining how stressors influence brain functioning and behavior. We are attempting to identify factors (genetic, neurochemical & psychosocial) that render individuals vulnerable to mental illness and those factors that impart resiliency. Our second line of research focuses on identifying plant derived medications that may attenuate stress, anxiety and depressive responses.

Research information:

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is my main field of study. I use this technique with psychiatric and neurologic patients to determine brain processing. I also study the effects of marijuana on executive functioning/cognition using fMRI.
