Giving to the University of Ottawa

What is Planned Giving?

Planned Giving is simply gift planning. It is the process of designing charitable gifts so that the donor realizes philanthropic objectives while maximizing tax and other financial benefits. Any gift of significant size made with forethought about the benefit to the charity and the financial implications to the donor and the donor’s family is a planned gift.

Planned giving allows you to accomplish the following:
  • optimize your gift’s long-term impact
  • give you greater tax benefits
  • control your personal financial security
Planned gifts include the following contribution methods: Planned gifts can be unrestricted gifts, which allow the University to use your donation where it believes the need is greatest, or can be designated towards:
  • the creation of a scholarship (or towards an existing one)
  • a research program or a project
  • a faculty or department of your choice
  • establishing an endowed fund in honour of a family member or someone dear to you
