Security Division

The Security Division is made up of four teams of security guards working shifts to ensure a round-the-clock presence. Our guards are here to provide you with maximum security on our campuses and are intent on providing the members of our university community with quality service. To respond as quickly and as efficiently as possible to the different types of emergency calls we receive, our guards get around the campuses on foot, on bicycles and on hybrid vehicles . In 2007, Protection Services purchased a fleet of hybrid vehicles to do its part to help reduce greenhouse gases.

Technology and Security Systems Division

The Technology and Security Systems Division is responsible for over 900 security cameras and thousands of alarm systems across the campuses. Members of this division actively participate at the planning stages of new facilities in order to integrate long-term solutions to provide maximum security for the users of the buildings.

Costs for services

  • Estimates provided free of charge
  • Administration fees of 15% will be charged to the cost of all projects managed by the Technology Division
  • An hourly rate of $55. will be applied for all service calls and installation provided by the Technology Division
Emergency Management Program

The Emergency Management Program

  • provides strategic and operational guidance in the development of University building emergency plans, business continuity plans and emergency response protocols
  • develops and manages initiatives to improve the University’s emergency response capacity, such as  the Emergency Notification System (uoAlert) and Emergency Coordination Team
  • conducts emergency response exercises and delivers emergency preparedness training for the University community, including responders

Prevention and Training Division

The Prevention and Training Division uses a proactive approach focused on prevention to offer lasting solutions to a variety of problems in an effort to prevent crime on campus. This division is also responsible for professional development of security guards.

Fire Prevention Division

This division is responsible for, among other things, the management of each building’s evacuation team. The division also provides consulting services for the different departments as well as contractors to ensure that fire safety regulations and standards are respected.

Investigations Division

This division conducts investigations into criminal offences that take place on University of Ottawa campuses.
