Bernardo Carlos Eduardo Bazan, PhD, FRSC .
Dr. Bazan was born in Mendoza, Argentina. He did his undergraduate studies at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (1957-1962). His PhD was done in Philosophy at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium in 1967 and his PhD in Mediaeval Studies ibid., in 1972. He is a former researcher at the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas in Argentina and a full professor at Universidad Nacional de Cuyo from 1968-1975. He has been a full professor at the University of Ottawa (Canada) since 1977 and a Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of America, Washington DC from 1983 to 1984. He has been the Chairperson of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Ottawa from 1989 to 1991; Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the same University from 1991 to 1995. He was President of the Société de Philosophie de l'Outaouais (1987-1989) and is Member of the Bureau, Société Internationale pour l'Étude de la Philosophie Medieavale (1987-1997) and a Member of the Board of directors for the Society for Mediaeval and Renaissance Philosophy from 1987 to 1991; Member of the Leonine Commission in Rome from 1975 to 1997; a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
Dr. Bazan has published seven books: Trois commentaires anonymes sur le Traité de l'âme d'Aristote (Louvain, 1971); Siger of Brabant, Quaestiones in Tertium De anima (Louvain, 1972); Siger of Brabant, écrits de logique, de morale et de physique (Louvain, 1974); Les questions disputées et les questions quodlibétiques dans les Facultés de Théologie, de Droit et de Médecine (Louvain, 1985); S. Thomae de Aquino, Quaestiones disputatae de anima (ed. Leonina, t.XXIV-1, Roma, 1996); Moral and political Philosophies in the Middle Ages (3 vols., Ottawa, 1995); Anonymi, Lectura super II et III De anima, forthcoming, 1996. Dr. Bazan has also published 40 papers and numerous critical book reviews in refereed journals in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the United States and Venezuela. He is an expert in the field of philosophical anthropology in the Middle Ages and its Greek and Arabic sources and is competent in the field of History of Classical Philosophy, Metaphysics and Ethics.
