Jorge Niosi, PhD, FRSC.

Dr. Niosi was born in Buenos Aires. He obtained a first degree at the University of Buenos Aires in 1967, a Third Cycle degree in Economics at the Institut d'études de développement économique et social (IEDES, Paris, 1970) and his doctorate a the Ecole pratique des hautes études, in Paris, 1973. At the present time he is professor in the Department of Administrative Science at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and was director, Centre de recherches en développement industriel et technologie (UQAM / Université de Montréal) from 1986 to 1993 and Director of the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en science et technologie (CIRST, UQAM, Université de Montréal) from 1994 to 1995. At present, he is Senior Fullbright Fellow and Visiting Scholar at the Center for Economic Policy Research, Standford University, California.

Dr. Niosi was a visiting Professor at the Université De Paris-Dauphine in 1992 and has consulted for numerous federal and provincial departments and organizations including the National Research Council of Canada, Communications Canada, Industry Canada, Statistics Canada., Conseil de la science et de la technologie du Québec, Industrie science et technologie Québec and several others. Dr. Niosi has received the John Porter Award of the Canadian. Anthropology & Sociology Association (1983), was a Fellow of Statistics Canada 1988-92 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada .

He is author of Les entrepreneurs dans la politique argentine (1976), Le contrôle financier du capitalisme canadien (1978), Canadian Multinationals (1985), Flexible Innovation (1995); co-author of L'industrie américaine. Fin de siècle (1986); editor of Technology and National Competitiveness (1991), New Technology Policy an Social Innovations in the Firm (1994). He is author or co-author of over 35 articles in refereed journals and over 30 chapters in refereed books.
