Adolfo J. de Bold, OC, PhD, FRSC.

Dr. de Bold was born in Parana, Argentina. He undertook his university training as a Clinical Biochemist at the National University of Cordoba, in the same country graduating in 1968. Dr. de Bold continued his studies in Canada where he earned MSc and a PhD degrees in Pathology at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. At present, Dr. de Bold is Professor of Pathology and Physiology at the University of Ottawa, Distinguished Research Professor of the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation and Director of the Cardiac Cell and Molecular Biology Laboratory of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He has published more than two hundred papers in learned journals and is a current member of the Editorial Boards of Endocrinology and the American Journal of Hypertension.

Dr. de Bold discovered the polypeptide hormone named Atrial Natriuretic Factor thus establishing that the heart has an endocrine function. This work has been recognized through numerous distinctions and awards that include the Gairdner Foundation International Award, The Royal Society of Canada McLaughlin Medal in Medical Research, The Ernest C. Manning Principal Award, The International Society for Hypertension Research Award and the American Society for Hypertension Award among others. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada , the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Dr. de Bold is also a member of the National Cardiovascular Institute in Argentina and has been designated Argentinean Scientist Abroad. He has been a board member of several institutions including the National Research Council of Canada, the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
