Biosafety

This course is mandatory for all individuals working with biological materials.

OR

General Awareness

This course is recommended for all non-laboratory personnel who could potentially be exposed to biological hazards (e.g. housekeeping, physical resources services and protection services).  

Interim Training Requirements

Did you miss the last training session? You must follow these simple steps:

  1. Review the documentation available on the Biosafety Program Web Page.
  2.  Become familiar with the characteristics of the biological material being manipulated. (MSDS links: http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/msds-ftss/index.html)
  3. View the appropriate Biosafety video (lab safety 101, CL2 laboratory: operational practices), available from ORM.
  4. Discuss the areas highlighted in the Practical Training document, (click here). Ensure the new user and the Permit Holder sign the documents and submit them to ORM.

The Office of Risk Management will subsequently follow up with the new user to ensure they have understood the key elements of biosafety and can work in the laboratory in a compliant fashion.
