Job-Specific Training

Certain activities and job tasks require specific training for personnel involved. The Ministry of Labour requires the University to provide this training to its personnel (regular employees, professors, and graduate students).

Fall Protection

Confined Space Entry

A confined space has restricted access or exit because of its construction or location. The space also has contents or substances that result from a work activity that involves a hazardous gas, vapour, dust, fume or oxygen-deficient atmosphere. Special training is required to:

  • determine if the space can safely be entered,
  • monitor the air in the space to ensure safety,
  • learn emergency procedures, and
  • use personal protective equipment properly.

Lock-out Procedures

Lock-out procedures must be applied when repairing or maintaining certain equipment to prevent personnel from being unintentionally endangered. Electrical and mechanical devices must be disabled (locked out) before work can begin. The training will provide participants with the University lock-out procedures and information needed to perform repairs and maintenance safely.
