Radiation, Lasers, and X-Ray Safety
Ionizing Radiation
The possession and use of radioactive substances is governed by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). The CNSC is the nuclear watchdog and regulator for Canada. They have the power to revoke site and single user licences based compliance status. Each researcher at the University is rated by the CNSC according to their compliance level.
ORM works with the CNSC to apply regulations at the University and ensure the viability of the site licence. Special requirements are applicable to international transfer of radioactive materials. ORM also works to ensure our research activities remain within compliance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Please select which type of radiation you are working with.
- Radioactive material (open, sealed, sealed in a device)
- X-Ray (X-Ray emitting devices)
Non-Ionizing Radiation
- Lasers
- Electromagnetic
- Ultraviolet
