Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
The University of Ottawa receives, prepares for transport and transports products every day that all under the Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Good (TDG) Act and Regulations. This legislation regulates what may or may not be transported, how it is to be packaged, labelled, and the documentation required. Underlying this activity is the need for all persons who “handle”, “offer for transport” or “transport” dangerous goods to be trained. This is a shared responsibility of the employer (University of Ottawa) and the individuals supervisor. This web page is part of this educational process, with specific guides, procedures and topics being addressed.
In additions to the Transport Canada requirements, additional authorizations (permits and licences ) may be required from federal, provincial , or the Office of Risk Management. In additional, international shipments may also have additional demands being placed on the individual or the shipment. For this reason Contact ORM (562-5892) early in the process to ensure your timelines may be met.

- Flammable Solid; Substances Liable to Spontaneous Combustion; Substance that on Contact with Water Emit Flammable Gases,
- Oxidizing Substances and Organic Peroxides,
- Toxic and Infectious Substances,
- Radioactive Materials,
- Corrosives, and
- Miscellaneous Products, Substances or Organisms.
