On-Line WHMIS Training

Whmis Symbol Applicable to ALL University of Ottawa employees, professors, volunteers, and students working for the University.

WHMIS is the Canadian Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. All workplaces in Canada must provide WHMIS training to their employees. Policies 77 and 91 require that every individual working for the University of Ottawa must complete WHMIS training.   Two programs, specific to work type at the University of Ottawa are available:

  • WHMIS for Laboratory Workers
  • WHMIS for Office Workers

    The on-line WHMIS computer based training session will take approximately an hour to complete.

The training will enable individuals to:

  • identify controlled products,
  • store and handle controlled products properly, and
  • understand how to obtain more information through Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).
