It is one of CNSC primary requirement to have control over all radioactive material, and to ensure that this material is held in a secure fashion. One means of ensuring control over radioactive material is to implement and maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records for all radioactive material, whether it be a open source, sealed source or sealed source in a device.

As the nature and use practices of each of these forms of radioactive material vary, the inventory system must also be adapted to meet the needs of each. Open source material have a dedicated inventory form which must be completed for each vial of material ordered or in when vials are aliquoted. Since the aliquotting from a stock source of radioactive material can occur under number of different scenarios, contact EHSS to discuss how this can be recorded on the Inventory and Disposition form. Sealed sources and sealed sources in a device are tracked by incorporating the serial number of each source into the internal radioisotope permit.

In addition, EHSS maintains inventory records of all radioactive material. It is the permit holders responsibility to ensure EHSS is informed of any transfers or intent to obtain additional radioactive material, in order that inventory records are adjusted to ensure accuracy.

* Note: Immediately upon completion of this form, a copy must be sent to EHSS.
