The University of Ottawa 2007-2008 Work-Study Program (UOWSP)
Goal of Program
To help students meet their financial responsibilities, reduce their debt load and obtain valuable work experience.
IMPORTANT:
The Financial Aid and Awards Service reserve the right to limit the number of positions per faculty or service, according to the available funding.
To ensure that the rules on student hiring and pay are followed, all job applications submitted by professors must be checked by their faculties’ administrative assistant to verify posting requirements under the appropriate collective agreements. A confirmation e-mail must be sent by the administrative assistant to loansandawards@uottawa.ca before considering a job application.
Some job descriptions, such as those referring to similar duties performed by CUPE members, will also be sent to the Chief Negotiator’s Office for verification and to avoid potential conflicts with collective agreements regulating research assistants and rates of pay.
Employment Period
Summer 2008: Mai 1st to August 31st, 2008 (17 weeks).
Hourly Rate
Minimum of $9 per hour
Reimbursement
Under the UOWSP, you can have as much as of 75% of the first $3,000 in salary reimbursed, including the 4 % vacation allowance, as well as the 9.6 % you pay in mandatory government premiums for programs such as E.I., OHIP, the Canadian Pension Plan, health tax, and workplace accidents. Take note of this distinction, however: If the University's central fund covers your mandatory premiums allowance, the UOWSP reimburses up to $2052.92. If these employer contributions are instead paid directly from your own budget, the UOWSP reimburses up to $2,250.
Access the WSP Navigator
The Work-Study Program (WSP) is administered by the Work-Study Navigator. Employers and students access this system through the University's InfoWeb
You enter InfoWeb with your user code and password. If for some reason you do not have either of these, call the Computing Help Centre (6555) to apply.
If you have trouble accessing the WS Navigator site, e-mail the Financial Aid and Awards Service ( loansandawards@uottawa.ca). On request, Financial Aid and Awards Service will provide a more detailed procedure.
Method of Payment
As the employer, you are obligated to complete section D of the request for remuneration form (ERD multiple pays).
You are required to complete this form for each session. One in the Fall (September to December), one in the Winter (January to March) and one in the Summer (May to August).
We also ask that you indicate the job class number 222202 on the electronic form. This classification is reserved for UOWSP students only. You will not need to provide us with a copy of the form since we will have electronic access to the information for reimbursement purposes.
