Associate Vice-President, Teaching and Learning Support

Yves Herry was named Associate Vice-President, Teaching and Learning Support in 2008.
He completed his high school studies at the Séminaire Saint-François de Cap-Rouge and his collegiate studies at the Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in education, with a specialization in pre-school and elementary school education in 1979. While teaching in elementary school, he obtained a master’s degree (1981) and a Ph.D. (1984) at the department of psychopedagogy of the Faculty of Education at Université Laval. From 1982 to 1987, he held the position of associate professor at Laurentian University of Sudbury’s School of Education. While in his last year at Laurentian University, he held the position of Director of the Faculty of Education. He was named associate professor at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Education in 1987 and became a tenured professor two years later. In 2002, he accepted the position of Vice-Dean, Research and Professional Development, at the same faculty. Six years later, in 2008, he was named Associate Vice-President, Teaching and Learning Support.

Teaching has been his passion since the very beginning of his career. He has continuously strived to transmit his love for teaching to his students through a variety of innovative, even original, theoretical and practical teaching strategies. Yves Herry also has vast research experience. Over the course of his career, he has published numerous articles, book chapters, books and research papers. His research is centered mainly on psychopedagogy and the impact of pedagogical strategies in child development. He also conducted research in the area of education within a French-language minority environment. His numerous projects were funded by the SSHRC and government agencies such as Ontario’s Ministry of Education.

Role:

The Associate Vice-President is responsible for all sectors within the Teaching and Learning Support Service (TLSS). He develops and implements the vision, strategies and major orientations for services related to teaching and learning, which are offered to students and professors by TLSS at the University of Ottawa.
