Excellence in Education Prizes

In June 2002, the University of Ottawa established the annual Excellence in Education Prizes that recognize educators of exceptional quality. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding teaching while maintaining a solid research program. Each of the prize winners receives $7,000 to be used for research on innovative teaching development, up to an additional $3,000 for supplementary duties associated with teaching development, as well as a plaque.

Recipients since 2002

Nominations

Nominations will be considered on an annual basis, with March 1 being the deadline date each year. The nominator must include:

  • A statement of nomination of two to four pages providing the basis and justification for the nomination.
  • A complete and current curriculum vitae.
  • A copy of all teaching evaluations from the previous five years, excluding any comments from students.
  • Up to five letters of endorsement from colleagues or students. If these have been provided in the context of another prize, it must be mentioned.
  • The candidate must provide an indication of the use that will be made of the funds allocated.

Recommendations are made by the deans to the University’s Excellence in Education Prizes Selection Committee, following assessment by the Teaching Personnel Committee of the respective faculties.

Completed nominations are to be submitted to the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost (one original and six copies). Decisions on the nominations are anticipated within three months.
