Policy On The Pro-Active Recruitment Of Women Professors

Request For Grant Applications Under Policy 94 On The Pro-Active Recruitment Of Women Professors

The last round of funding allocations was held in February 2011. Requests were received from 31 women professors. The Grant Allocation Committee had accepted 10 projects.

For the fiscal year 2012-2013 an amount of $50,000 has been allocated for career development. The Evaluation Committee will proceed with the allocation of these funds in February 2012.

Guidelines for application:

  1. Policy 94 is designed to help stem the effects of family responsibilities (births, child, spouse or parent care) on the career of women professors, whether work interruptions have occured or not.

  2. In her request, the professor must demonstrate that the project for which funding is requested will enhance her career development. At this stage, the Committee suggests that the professor evaluate her actual career path needs (publish articles, research, teaching) and clearly identify those needs while explaining how this project is timely in her career.

  3. A letter of support for the project from your Dean must accompany the request. Furthermore, we encourage professors to discuss their project with the chairperson of their department. Projects will not automatically get renewed funding.

  4. A maximum limit of $7,500 per project has been set, which is the equivalent of a three-credit course load reduction (amount under review).

  5. The Grant Allocation Committee will favour projects which have merit but might not meet the requirements of other granting agencies. However, requests for funding of computer equipment and the purchase of books or journals will not be accepted.

  6. Requests for second-language training are not eligible for this fund. These requests must be submitted to Deans who, in turn, will ask the Vice-President Academic and Provost for matching funds.

  7. The Grant Allocation Committee will consider, this year, requests for course load reductions for September 2012 and for January 2013. If you are considering requesting a course load reduction, you should discuss your plans with your Dean as soon as possible since workloads for 2012-2013 are presently being prepared.

  8. Professors are also encouraged to submit their projects to other funding sources within the University such as the Research Committee of the University, the Centre for University Teaching which funds university teaching projects, and discretionary funds available in each faculty.

The Grant Allocation Committee for the career development of women professors invites all interested women professors to submit their projects and the Dean’s letter of support no later than January 31, 2012. Please forward the following documents to Hélène Lacroix, Tabaret Hall, Room 228:

  1. Five (5) copies of your request
  2. Five (5) copies of the Dean’s letter of support
  3. Five (5) copies of an abbreviated version of your CV
  4. Five (5) copies of your workload of the last three years.

Please complete the “Request for Grant ” form (PDF or Word).

The Committee will announce its decisions in early March, 2011.
