Centre stage

Michel Chrétien. CEO and Scientific Director,
Loeb Health Research Institute

Michel Chrétien and colleague Nabil Seidah (CRIM) were presented the Rx&D Health Research Foundation Medal of Honour funded by Canada's Research-based Pharmaceutical Companies for his contributions to the study of enzymes. Chrétien is a pioneer and international leader in the research and application of converting enzymes also known as convertases.

Richard Clément. School of Psychology — Faculty of Social Sciences
Richard Clément, Director of the School of Psychology, won the Kenneth W. Mildenberger Prize for a research article he coauthored in the field of teaching foreign languages and literatures. The acclaimed article is entitled: "Conceptualizing Willingness to Communicate in a L2." The Prize is given by the Modern Language Association of America.

Andrew Donskov. Department of Modern Languages and Literatures —
Faculty of Arts
Andrew Donskov is the first Canadian to receive the A.S. Pushkin Gold Medal for his significant scholarly contributions in disseminating Russian language and culture throughout the world. The Medal is presented by the International Association of Professors of Russian Language and Literature whose headquarters are in Moscow. Donskov studies Russian Literature of the 19th century with a special focus on Tolstoy.

David Staines. Department of English — Faculty of Arts
David Staines, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, was recently elected as Corresponding Member of the European Academy of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities. Staines has made outstanding contributions to literature as an author, editor, and critic. Staines is well known to the Canadian public for his literary critics on radio and television programs.
