On 10 January 2020, a memorial ceremony was held for the three University of Ottawa students who died in the crash of flight PS752. This incident deeply saddened our international community. We wish to offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Mehraban Badiei Ardestani, Alma Oladi, and Saeed Kadkhodazedeh Kashani. In their honour, the new Iranian Students Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to University of Ottawa Iranian students with financial needs.
Renewing our partnership
Last December, Jérémie Séror, Director of OLBI and Nikolay Slavkov, Director, Canadian Centre for Studies and Research on Bilingualism and Language Planning (CCERBAL) travelled to Austria for a conference celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Council of ECML. Following celebrations, Sarah Breslin, executive director, signed the renewal of the Memorandum of Cooperation and Liaison between ECML and OLBI. Established in 2008, this memorandum ensures cooperation between the two institutions. As per the agreement, OLBI disseminates ECML content and proposes Canadian experts to participate in various projects, making OLBI the National Appointing Authority for Canada.
The British Council awarded the 2019 International Assessment Award to Beverly Baker, Director of Language Assessment within OLBI. The award, given annually to a language assessment researcher who has made an international impact, was presented at the Language Testing Forum of the UK Association of Language Testing and Assessment in Swansea, Wales. Congratulations, Beverly!
