Faculty of Arts

MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

The Arts lead everywhere...

The Faculty of Arts offers a wide range of programs and an even greater variety of courses, all very different and all extremely interesting.

A world of choice

More than 100 undergraduate programs in 37 different disciplines. These impressive numbers translate into exceptional educational and career possibilities. The choice is yours! You may also decide to go further in your studies and register in one of our 18 master’s or 10 PhD programs.

Maximum flexibility

If you want flexibility, you’ll find it at the Faculty of Arts. Our first-year introductory courses allow you to explore the disciplines that interest you most, leaving you the option of choosing based on your own preferences and goals. In addition, many of our programs can be combined with each other or with programs offered in other faculties. The bottom line is you’re sure to find a winning combination!

Outstanding teachers, renowned researchers

At the Faculty of Arts, you are in good hands! More than 250 full-time professors are well known for the quality of their teaching and are recognized nationally and internationally for their innovative research. These dynamic professors and creative artists have come from all over the world to pass on their expertise and their discoveries to you and your colleagues in the Faculty of Arts.

CO-OP or international exchange?

Do you want to combine studying and working? Several of our programs are offered with a CO-OP option. This program gives you the opportunity to explore different working environments, forge links with potential employers and earn a salary while attending university. Or do you dream of discovering the world? Participate in an international exchange—for one semester or for a full year. This is the ideal way to immerse yourself in a new culture, to see your discipline from another angle and even to learn a new language.

Is English your first language? Would you like to perfect your French?

The Faculty of Art’s Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) offers a full range of possibilities: French as a second language courses, immersion courses in French, second language certification and discipline-specific courses taught in French. What could be more beneficial in the National Capital?

Modern languages courses

Our Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers one of the widest ranges of language courses of any Ontario university: German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Celtic languages, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Yiddish. Many of the programs are linked to international exchanges, so you can apply your knowledge while immersed in the culture you’ve been studying.

Here to help: Student mentors

Need a helping hand or feel like talking to someone? The Faculty of Arts Student Mentoring Centre offers assistance and guidance. This is a service offered TO students BY students and has proven to be very successful. It can help you to not only adapt to university life but also achieve academic success.

I am sure that your hopes and interests, no matter what they are, will be fulfilled by the Faculty of Arts. I look forward to meeting you.
