Faculty of Arts

MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

“What kind of job can I get with a degree in…?”

That’s the most common question put to us at the Faculty of Arts. While it’s a valid question, the truth is that nearly 90% of undergraduates from our arts and humanities programs find jobs within six months of graduating.

Maybe a better question to ask is “What am I passionate about?”

Students who love what they study find jobs that they love. If you’re passionate about your subject, then you’ll be more engaged, you’ll enjoy university life and you’ll acquire the tools you need to succeed from our outstanding professors.

In fact, our graduates enjoy success across Canada and around the world. They are actively applying the skills that they developed in the Faculty of Arts—critical thinking, creative problem-solving, ability to synthesize information and effective communication—to a world that’s constantly changing.

If you’re not sure what you want to focus on, we offer the choice of nearly one hundred programs in languages and literatures, the fine arts and the humanities. You can also register in the General Bachelor’s and take a range of courses before deciding on a major.

Our successful Professor-Student Mentoring Program now matches every first year student with an experienced professor, so that you can receive helpful advice, guidance and support throughout the year and participate fully in our community.

While you’re studying in Arts at uOttawa, take advantage of other possibilities: enrol in a program with an option to study abroad; apply for CO-OP and get hands-on professional experience; or register in our unique immersion program and improve your French skills while studying.

So come and join us. Whether you already know your passion or want to find it, the Faculty of Arts is a great place to start.
