Jamie Ghossein

 

Biography:

Jamie Ghossein is a MD student at the Faculty of Medicine. As a recipient of the Undergraduate Research Scholarship of the Faculty of Science, Jamie has been involved in research for over four years. He has many publications and abstracts in his name, including those for which he has been recognized in national medical conferences. Jamie seeks to share his passion for research. He is co-founder and acting president of the student run Undergraduate Research Initiative, which organizes research competitions and experiences for undergraduate and high school students as well as in community events such as science fairs.

Furthermore, Jamie is extensively involved in hospitals of the Ottawa region. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Association of the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, where he assists in decisions involving the purchase of medical equipment (such as MRI and ultrasound scanners) as well as organizing various events for the hospital. He served both the Ottawa Hospital and the Montfort Hospital as a volunteer for over five years, dedicating over 1500 hours of service. He now plays an integral role at the Montfort Hospital emergency department, training volunteers who assist the department in its operations. His volunteer work has been recognized with awards from the Government of Ontario.
