Suzanne Morris is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and experienced senior executive and board member. From 2009 to 2015, she was the Vice-President and CFO of CBC/Radio-Canada, where she oversaw the financial stewardship of Canada’s national public broadcaster during years of highly challenging industry and funding dynamics. In addition to her CFO duties, at different points in her tenure she also provided direction to the information technology and business partnerships functions. Suzanne also served as Vice-Chair of the CBC Pension Board of Trustees.
Before becoming a member of CBC/Radio-Canada’s senior executive team, Suzanne was Secretary/Treasurer to the CBC Pension Board of Trustees, where she was CFO of the $5B pension fund and was also responsible for information technology, the money market portfolio and pension benefits administration. She successfully managed operations, notably through the period of financial market turmoil and credit crisis in 2007/2008.
Prior to that, she was Vice-President, Small Business Financial Services, at Export Development Canada (EDC), leading the line of business serving small and mid-size companies across Canada through multiple delivery channels. She was responsible for business strategy, product development, sales and the underwriting of insurance and loan guarantees.
She has also held senior positions at EDC in risk management and internal audit, as well as at Deloitte, where she provided assurance and business advisory services to large corporate and public sector clients. Her professional experience also includes work with the Office of the Auditor General of Canada.
Suzanne earned her Bachelor of Commerce degree with Honours from the University of Ottawa in 1986 and was an Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario prize-winner. She served as a marker for the Institute’s professional examinations and as a lecturer on accounting topics at the University of Ottawa.
Suzanne was an advisor to the Dean of the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University, is a past Corporate Director of SiriusXM Canada (TSX: XSR:CN) and past Board member of the Forum for International Trade Training.
