Sylvie A. Lamoureux is an associate professor at the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Arts and is cross-appointed to the Faculty of Education. An educator by training, with considerable experience in French-language education in Ontario, she was a teacher, school administrator and project manager before embarking on an academic career. Her desire to improve the experience of young Franco-Ontarians led her to complete a PhD and an SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, at the University of Toronto. Her research, at the intersection of policy, language planning and higher education, deals with the impact of institutional language policies and practices on francophone students’ success in a linguistic minority setting. She focuses particularly on the student experience during the transition to postsecondary studies and the transitions between levels of postsecondary studies. A leader in her field, she was named to the Order of Ontario and the College of the Royal Society of Canada in 2015.
