Sarah Aly

Biography:

 

Sarah Aly is a Health Sciences student at the University of Ottawa with a passion for helping students by advocating for solutions in their best interest. Throughout her years of university, she has held various leadership roles in clubs and student governments. She co-founded the Ottawa chapter of MedX Canada (http://www.medxcanada.org/ottawa) and is an executive member of the University of Ottawa Healthcare Symposium. She also has been elected to serve as Board of Director for the Faculty of Health Sciences for two terms on the University of Ottawa Students’ Union (https://www.seuo-uosu.com/) where she has gained valuable and relevant experience in student representation.

Sarah is passionate about being involved in different aspects of her community. Since her high school years, she has been volunteering within different capacities in the city, with local initiatives such as weekly lunch for the homeless and as a mentor for refugee youth (https://sidratreehouse.com). She has also invested hundreds of hours of community service at hospitals both local and abroad, as she hopes to pursue a career in healthcare in the future. Sarah is currently involved with UMO-OG Covid Relief efforts where she assists in packaging and distribution of food kits for those affected by the current situation (https://www.instagram.com/umoogrelief/).

During her pandemic-free summers she enjoys travelling to new destinations, outdoor activities, and working with youth at camps. In her spare time, you could find Sarah with her family and friends, learning a new skill or watching Netflix.

Re-running for the position of Senate, Sarah hopes to address both the academic and non-academic concerns of her peers while prioritizing the well-being of students in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Sarah hopes to address some of the recurring concerns that students have:

  • Tuition costs
  • Mental health support
  • Flexible academic regulations
  • Financial support through scholarships and bursaries
