"Canada-U.S. Relations: 100 Days into the Trump Administration"

Speaker: Dr. Charles Doran

Charles Doran is one of the most influential American commentators on Canada-U.S. relations. He is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of International Relations at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University, where he also serves as director of both the Global Theory and History and the Canadian Studies programs.

Doran’s first book on Canada, Forgotten Partnership, is regarded as a classic on Canada-U.S. relations.  The distinguished sociologist and political scientist Seymour Martin Lipset called Doran “the American who knows the most about Canada.”

Doran focuses on the strategic interaction of the two countries’ governments, and has provided briefings and testimony on energy matters, trade policy and international security before committees of the U.S. Congress and the Canadian Parliament.

Doran is a recipient of the Governor General’s International Award in Canadian Studies, the highest scholarly award in the field. He has also received the Donner Medal for distinguished scholarship in Canadian studies, the Lifetime Achievement Award in Canadian studies and the Distinguished Scholar Award (Foreign Policy).
