Date: May 12th, 2021
Time: 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Location: Virtual event

The Aspiring Leaders Network- Capital Chapter (ALN-CC), supported by the Financial Management Institute of Canada (FMI) Capital Chapter, KPMG Ottawa Office and uOttawa CO-OP is excited to invite you to our Spring Networking Mixer! Due to the current pandemic situation, this networking event will be held virtually.  We will be using an online platform where there will be different breakout rooms to facilitate discussions and networking.

Not only do you get to enjoy meeting other professionals in the industry, but you will have the opportunity to listen to a short presentation by Professor Cheryl Qi, University of Ottawa professor,  who will be discussing the FinTech Sector.

‘’Do not get me wrong. FinTech has a significantly positive impact on our society. However, I believe that FinTech will not be widely adopted until its risks are fully understood and manageable. In this talk, I will explain the deep-rooted flaws of machine learning algorithms and provide real-life case studies of the crises that this technology has led us to. In particular, we will talk about facial (mis)recognition, the peer-to-peer lending crash in China, AI-induced discrimination, as well as the algorithmic trading and stock market plunge.’’

We also invited leaders from Finance Professionals Network (FPN) who are excited to share some tips on professional development in the Finance sector of Federal Government. This is the perfect opportunity for students and young professionals to take a break from their classes or careers to take advantage of this event. Come network with industry professionals who are happy to share their experiences and advice to help you with your professional aspirations.

We invite you to attend as mentors or mentees to have a rich exchange during the networking portion of the event.  We look forward to seeing you there.  The ALN committee.
