Mailing Address: Institute for Biological Sciences; National Research Council of Canada; 6000 Montreal Road, Bldg M-54; Ottawa, ON K1A 0R6 Phone: (613) 993-3730 Fax: (613) 941-4475

Research interests:

  • In vitro models of the blood brain barrier: rat and human cerebromicrovascular endothelial cell cultures, immortalized non-neuronal brain cells, mechanisms of transport across the BBB, design of delivery systems to target peptides and genes to the brain.
  • Effects of in vitro ischemic insult(s) on physiology and properties of non neuronal brain cells (i.e., glial cells and cerebral endothelium)
  • Mechanisms and regulation of inflammatory cell recruitment into the brain: adhesion molecule expression/regulation; cerebral endothelial cell/neutrophil interactions; expression and secretion of chemokines by injured brain cells.

Key words:

cerebromicrovascular endothelium; astrocytes; ischemia/reperfusion; neuroinflammation; signal transduction

Fields of Interest

  • Developing methods and technologies for delivery of therapeutics across the blood-brain barrier
