Current Research:

Dr. Robaey investigates the role of genetic and environmental factors in the development, the expression and the treatment of ADHD, in clinically referred children. Brain electrical activity is recorded to identify the nature of the deficit in ADHD. Dr. Robaey coordinated several inter-related studies from McGill, Concordia, Laval, Toronto and Ottawa university researchers. We used behavioural, neuropsychological and psychophysiological assessment methods in a sample of seven-year-old twins (650 pairs) that has been followed since birth. The general objective is to identify the genetic, neuropsychological, psychophysiological and early environmental factors predisposing to the development of inattention, impulsiveness and restlessness in children.


After an MD at the Free University at Brussels and a specialty in neuropsychiatry at the Catholic University of Leuven, he obtained a PhD in Health Sciences (psychophysiology) at the Université Paris 6. After postdoctoral studies at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital (Paris). Dr. Robaey continued his research at the Sainte- Justine University Hospital Center (Montreal), and later at the Children Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the Ottawa University Institute of Mental Health Research (Ottawa). Dr. Robaey is the funding director of the CHEO Neuropsychiatry Research Laboratory located at CHEO.
