Associate teachers help teacher candidates become qualified professionals. They are supported by the Faculty throughout teacher candidates’ practical training.
You help develop the next generation of teachers and train your future colleagues. As an associate teacher, you:
- Welcome teacher candidates to your classroom and facilitate their integration
- Provide information on the school (information required by the school’s teachers)
- Supervise students’ practical training to lead them towards autonomy (co-management, co-planning, co-teaching, student fully taking control by the end of the practicum)
- Give constructive feedback to teacher candidates: alternative strategies, suggestions, recommendations
- Monitor candidates’ progress and evaluate them
Accompanying students with the Faculty’s support
Your efforts help train the next generation with the support of a faculty supervisor and co-ordinators. Both are available to respond to your questions, comments, suggestions and concerns:
- For community service learning (CSL), contact the co-ordinators. They will help you with questions regarding how it works.
- For practicums 1 and 2, consult the faculty supervisor designated by the Faculty. Faculty supervisors ensure teacher candidates perform well in the classroom and that the practicum runs properly for both students and associate teachers.
