The last thirty years witnessed the growth of both globalization and digital transformation, characterized by information systems becoming interconnected and distributed on a worldwide scale with Information Technology (IT) aimed to become a commodity.
However, the likely trends of the next few years will be a progressive decoupling of supply chains, particularly for all software/hardware manufacturing employed into vital services of a nation.
This shift towards the deglobalization of supply chains would require the development of robust technologies and algorithms compliant to society values, which in turn is expected to increase the number, the magnitude and complexity of cyber attacks coming from other geopolitical blocks for espionage or terroristic reasons in a continuous hybrid warfare scenario.
Computer scientists and engineers will have to cope with the new challenges within this decoupled world.
Join special guest Roberto Baldoni, Director General of the National Cybersecurity Agency of Italy, on November 24 at the University of Ottawa as he sheds some light on what this could imply in terms of technology, computing paradigms and nation IT capability.

Roberto Baldoni
Director General of the National Cybersecurity Agency of Italy
Roberto Baldoni is the first Director General of the National Cybersecurity Agency of Italy appointed by Prime Minister Draghi in August 2021. He was the Deputy Director General of the Italian Intelligence department for four years. He is the Chair of the National Cybersecurity Cell, the coordination inter ministerial committee for preventing and mitigating cyberattacks that can impact national security. Before that he spent fifteen years as a full professor of Computer Science at La Sapienza University of Rome. Roberto chaired the steering committees of IEEE TC on Dependable computing and of DISC and Dan conferences and he acted as Program Chair of the most relevant international conference in Distributed Systems and Algorithms. Roberto published more than 250 scientific papers in almost 30 years of research.
