Year 1 Course Sequence and Milestones

First Term
(Fall)

Milestones

  • Fill out the Nomination of our Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) Members form.

  • Organize and meet with your TAC before the end of the first term. It is essential that you schedule your TAC meeting well in advance.

  • Complete the TAC report after the meeting.

  • Submit the TAC report before the end of the first term. Submit form through the Service Request application in your uoZone account.

  • List of approved NSC graduate courses.

  • In some cases, we may cancel classes with low enrolment or convert them into Directed Studies.

  • Some graduate courses are offered every year, others in alternating years, and others less often.

  • There are no CMM graduate courses available during the Spring/Summer term (excluding seminars and research activities)

  • MED 8166 Part 1 and 2: This course is compulsory for all students enrolled in a master’s program and attendance is mandatory for all workshops.

THM 7999 and NSC 8324S: Continuous activities

  • Once you have enrolled for the first time in a continuing activity such as the seminar course or for the thesis, you must maintain your enrolment until the activity is completed.

Enrolment to continuous activities:

  • NSC 8324S: Enrolment to NSC 8324S is not automatic. Every term, you must enroll in this continuous activity through your uoZone account before the deadline.

  • THM 7999: After your first (manual) enrolment to the thesis, all subsequent enrolments are automatic, unless you have a hold on your account, which will require that you manual enroll once you have arranged to have your hold lifted.

NSC 8324S: Seminar Series

  • You must attend a minimum of 20 seminars during the fall and winter terms and track your seminar attendance using the Student Seminar Report form.

  • You must be enrolled during the first consecutive fall and winter terms ONLY.

  • You participate in the Journal Club/Work-in-Progress series.

  • As part of the requirements of the seminar series, you must present during Seminar and Poster Day.

Milestones

  • Meet with your TAC.

  • You must hold your second TAC meeting within 16 months of your initial enrolment.

  • Submit the Thesis Advisory Committee report before the end of this term through the Service Request application in your uoZone account.

Note

  • If you have not submitted your TAC report by the end of the term, you will not be able to enrolment for future terms.

Fifth Term
(Winter)

Course

  • NSC 8324S Seminar

  • THM 7999 Thesis

Milestones

  • If you wish to transfer from the MSc to the PhD program (fast track), you must complete the “Transfer Exam” during the fourth or fifth term. Before transferring to the Doctorate program, students must have completed their program requirements, with the exception of the thesis activity.

  • Submit the Annual Progress Report form before the end of this term through the Service Request application in your uoZone account.

Sixth Term
(Spring/summer)

  • THM 7999 Thesis

Milestone

  • Submit your thesis during or at the end of this term.

  • Meet with your Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC)
    Meetings can be more frequent but must be held at least once a year after the initial TAC meeting, which must be held during the third term.

  • Submit the two following forms through the Service Request application in your uoZone account:

    • Annual Research Progress Report
