Admission scholarships 2018-2019
University of Ottawa Admission ScholarshipValueAdmission average of: DescriptionThe University of Ottawa Admission Scholarship automatically provides between $1,000 and $4,000 to all eligible full-time students with an average of 80% or more who are studying in a direct-entry faculty or in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section. This scholarship is awarded automatically to all qualified students. No application is required for this scholarship; all eligible students are automatically evaluated for this award.

French Studies BursaryValue$4,000 ($1,000 per year) DescriptionThe French Studies Bursary is automatically awarded to full-time students enrolled in a direct-entry faculty or in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, who are taking each term at least 3 courses (9 units) taught in French, or 2 courses (6 units) taught in French, or in French as a second language (FLS) if you are in French immersion or in extended French. This bursary can be renewed for the three following years provided the student maintains full-time enrolment in a direct-entry faculty or in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, and is enrolled each term in at least 3 courses (9 units) taught in French, or 2 courses (6 units) taught in French, or in French as a second language (FLS) if you are in French immersion or in extended French, and maintains a minimum CGPA of 5.50 at the end of each academic year. No application is required for this bursary; all eligible students are automatically evaluated for this award.

Education BursaryValue$4,000 ($1,000 per year) DescriptionThe Education Bursary is available to full-time students enrolled in a direct-entry faculty or in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section who demonstrate financial need. This scholarship can be renewed for the three following years provided the student maintains full-time enrolment in a direct-entry faculty or in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section and receives government financial aid for each renewal year. Applications must be submitted online (deadline is March 31).

Professional Training ScholarshipValue$1,000 minimum DescriptionThe non-renewable Professional Training Scholarship is automatically awarded upon admission to some students who have an excellent academic record and are enrolled full time in an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, the Faculty of Education or the Faculty of Medicine. No application is required for this scholarship; all eligible students are automatically evaluated for this award. |
Admission contestsValueVariable DescriptionFrancophone and French-immersion students can participate in a number of contests to win admission awards. Some of the contests are offered through French for the Future, Canadian Parents for French or Association des universités de la francophonie canadienne. Faculty admission scholarships 2018-2019
Faculty of Arts Dean's Merit ScholarshipValue$4,000 ($1,000 per year) DescriptionThe Faculty of Arts awards 10 of these renewable scholarships, each valued at a total of $4,000. Eligible applicants must be enrolled full time, and for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Arts and have a minimum admission average of 90%. This scholarship can be renewed for the three following years provided the student has a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 9.00 or higher at the end of a term (in at least 24 units) and is enrolled full time at the Faculty of Arts. No application is required for this scholarship. The scholarship is awarded during the summer preceding your studies.

Faculty of Engineering Dean's Merit ScholarshipValueAdmission average of: DescriptionThe Faculty of Engineering awards 35 of these scholarships to students with an admission average between 95-100% ($5,000) or between 90-94.9% ($4,000). Applicants must be enrolled full time, and for the first time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Engineering. No application is required for this scholarship; all eligible students are automatically evaluated for this award.

Faculty of Engineering Memorial ScholarshipValue$2,000 DescriptionThe Faculty of Engineering awards this scholarship to seven female students—one from each of the engineering programs (excluding computer science). This $2,000 award is given to the applicants with a minimum admission average of 80% and who best fulfill the eligibility criteria. To apply, students must submit a letter explaining why they are applying to an engineering program as well as an up-to-date resumé highlighting their latest academic and extracurricular achievements. Applications must be submitted online (deadline is March 31).

Faculty of Science Undergraduate Research ScholarshipValue$10,000 DescriptionThe Faculty of Science awards 16 of these scholarships to the best eligible students. This scholarship consists of two work terms with a research group at the Faculty of Science or the Faculty of Medicine (first work term = $3,750; second work term = $6,250). Students must be enrolled full time, for the first time in September, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Science and have a minimum admission average of 92%. They must also demonstrate research skills and involvement in extracurricular scientific activities. To apply, students must provide recommendations from a science teacher, submit a 250-word text describing some of the ways they explore their passion for science and how they share it with others. Students must also be available for an interview in the spring. Applications must be submitted online (deadline is March 1).

Faculty of Social Sciences Dean's Excellence AwardValue$2,500 DescriptionThe Faculty of Social Sciences awards a variable number of these $2,500 scholarships to the best eligible students enrolled full time in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Social Sciences with a minimum admission average of 92%. This scholarship is also awarded to some students who have applied for but have not received a President’s Scholarship or a Chancellor’s Scholarship. Faculty of Social Sciences Jean Chrétien ScholarshipValue$5,000 DescriptionThe Faculty of Social Sciences awards up to five $5,000 scholarships to the best eligible students enrolled full time in an undergraduate program in political science or public administration and who have a minimum admission average of 92%. To apply, students must submit an 800-word essay on a past or current event associated with political science or public administration and an up-to-date resumé highlighting their leadership qualities and latest academic and extracurricular achievements. Schulich Leader ScholarshipValue$80,000 to $100,000 DescriptionThe annual Schulich Leader Scholarships program was established in 2012 by the Schulich Foundation. The scholarships recognize the academic excellence and community leadership of students intending to study science, technology, engineering or mathematics. They are worth between $80,000 and $100,000 and are awarded to two students who demonstrate outstanding community leadership, academic excellence and financial need. To be eligible, applicants must be in their final year of high school or in CEGEP and be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Students must be nominated by their high school or CEGEP. Applications must be submitted online (deadline is February 1). |
President's ScholarshipValue$30,000 ($7,500 per year) DescriptionThe President’s Scholarship is awarded to one full-time undergraduate student in each of the direct-entry faculties. Valued at $30,000, it is one of the most prestigious scholarships at the University of Ottawa. Loran AwardValueUp to $100,000 DescriptionEvery year, the Loran Scholars Foundation offers prestigious admission scholarships to students who distinguish themselves through their determination and commitment to community service and leadership. Applicants must be in their final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school or CEGEP, have a minimum cumulative average of 85% for students outside of Quebec or present an R score equal to or higher than 29 for students in Quebec, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and be at least 16 years of age by September 1 of the following year. Scholarships for international students 2018-2019
Education Bursary for International StudentsValue$1,250 per term DescriptionThis bursary is automatically applied to students who pay international tuition fees and who enrol in any undergraduate program at the University of Ottawa except for Faculty of Engineering programs. Recipients must meet the following conditions:
Students do not need to apply for this bursary: the University will automatically apply it to the tuition fees that eligible students pay. The bursary will be allocated each term for the duration of the program (including the summer term) as long as the bursary’s conditions are met. This bursary cannot be combined with the differential tuition fee exemption for international students studying in French. Note that students taking ESL (English-as-a-second-language) courses during their first term of studies (as of Fall 2018) will be eligible for this bursary once they have enrolled in their faculty. |

University of Ottawa Financial Aid BursaryValueVariable DescriptionThe University of Ottawa Financial Aid Bursary is awarded to international students who demonstrate financial need and maintain satisfactory academic standing. The value of this bursary is decided on an individual basis, based on the student’s level of financial need and availability of funds. This bursary is meant to supplement other sources of funding such as the student’s own resources and the resources of their parents or partner.
