The President’s Awards for Service Excellence for 2014 were presented at this year’s Founder’s Breakfast on June 8. The selection committee was extremely impressed by the number and quality of the nominations, which confirms the dedication and enormous contributions of our staff as well as their ongoing commitment to make this a great place to work!
The individual winners of the President’s Award for Service Excellence for 2014 are:
Julie Clavelle, from the Faculty of Medicine
As the Elective Coordinator for the Faculty of Medicine, Julie singlehandedly oversees the elective rotations of over 1700 medical students each year. Students frequently turn to her for valuable advice on clinical rotation selection, and for career guidance and mentoring. She goes above and beyond her specific duties, and clearly helps guide the careers of many of our future physicians.

Pouya Safi from the Telfer School of Management
Pouya Safi manages the Financial Research and Learning Lab (FRLL) at Telfer with a “can do” attitude. In addition to launching and running the lab, he has been instrumental in creating a student investment fund. Pouya’s innovative and thoughtful solutions contribute greatly to enhancing the student experience. He books professionals and alumni to visit FRLL to speak on a variety of topics, which increases the students’ networking opportunities as well as their knowledge.
Guylaine Renaud from Financial Aid and Awards
Guylaine Renaud’s initiative, leadership and remarkable dedication were evident as she piloted a project to develop a new search engine for Financial Aid and Awards. Her work has significantly improved the quality of services to students: the annual number of scholarship applications has increased from 40 000 to 150 000.
Francine Pagé from Student Academic Success Service (SASS)
Francine Pagé has had a dramatic impact on service delivery at SASS, which has seen a 28% increase in client growth and a 36% spike in the delivery of adapted exams. As manager of the SASS Access Service, she empowers more than 1,800 students with disabilities to recognize their potential, and inspires the uOttawa community to promote accessibility and inclusion. In her first year, Francine has standardized internal procedures to help deliver seamless services to students with disabilities.

Whether they are managing visits by ambassadors or organizing student placements in foreign embassies, this incredible trio from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs – France Prud’homme, Daniela Gutiérrez de Piñeres and Nancy Pelletier – aims to serve. They often give up their lunch hours and weekends and are constantly asking how they can improve the student experience.

Team Category – Service
The Housing Service team doesn’t just help 4,000 new students move in to uOttawa residences every year. It also helps first-year students adjust to university life and encourages all student housing residents to volunteer and be good neighbours. The team’s recent successes include opening the new Friel Residence and a new online room allocation system, Kinectics.
