A Tradition of Excellence:

Help our students advance the boundaries of the creative arts and humanities, through access to new facilities and experiential learning opportunities.

Created in 1889, the Faculty of Arts is uOttawa’s oldest faculty, and, with over 5,000 undergraduate students and about 800 graduate students, its second largest.

We have a tradition of excellence, and boast elite world rankings in philosophy (top 100), linguistics (top 150), communication and media studies (top 200), and history (top 200).

Here are some of the projects that your donation to the Faculty of Arts will help support:

Experiences to Launch a Lifetime

Students know that not everything can be learned in a classroom. They need hands-on opportunities to deepen their education and improve their employment prospects after graduation. And good teachers know it, too.

The Student Experience Fund helps students apply their learning to real-world experience through internships, exchanges, conferences, scholarships and fieldwork. The University will match every dollar donated up to $625,000 until June 30th, 2015.

A New Creative Space

Fifteen years ago, Adrienne Clarkson created the Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts. Since then, ten of the awards have been won by University of Ottawa faculty and alumni.

That’s impressive for a small department, squeezed into the oldest building on campus — a 19th-century greystone edifice without room for printmaking equipment, a photography lab or undergraduate studios, and with no access for mobility-impaired students. Imagine what can be accomplished in a new, fully accessible visual arts building, an exciting space where artists can create.
