Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program
Students participating in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) receive a $1,000 award and devote a minimum of 50 hours, during one academic term, to a research project conducted by the faculty sponsor they have chosen. Faculty sponsors each receive $500 in research funds to support their involvement in the program.
UROP offers students hands-on experience in their field of study, with the goal of increasing student engagement and enriching their experience at uOttawa. The program also fosters professional relationships between students and faculty members, preparing students for graduate studies and helping them to make career decisions.
During its first year, 100 UROP awards were expected to be given out, but strong demand resulted in the distribution of 140 awards. In its second year, an increase in its budget led to the distribution of 250 awards.
This program is currently funded from the University’s operating budget; however, in order to continue to offer this growing and sustainable program, the University needs additional complementary private support for UROP.
