I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Jacline Nyman as vice-president, external relations. At its June 21 meeting, the University’s Board of Governors approved her appointment for a five-year term.
In her new role, Dr. Nyman will be responsible for the activities of Development, Alumni Relations, Communications, Language Services and Advancement Services, ensuring they are consistent with the University’s mission.
Most recently, Dr. Nyman has served as president and CEO of United Way Centraide Canada, a national federated charitable organization that raises and invests more than $540 million annually serving more than 5,000 Canadian communities.
Dr. Nyman has extensive experience in the university sector, leading multi-million-dollar fundraising initiatives as executive director, development and alumni relations, at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, vice-president of fundraising and donor relations at the York University Foundation and director of development and external relations at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business.

Dr. Nyman is a proud uOttawa alumna, having earned her bachelor of business administration at our university. She has holds an MBA from the University of Calgary and a doctorate in business administration from Cranfield University in the U.K. Since 2012, she has been an adjunct professor at the Telfer School of Management, and upon her appointment becomes associate professor. On behalf of the University, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations and welcome Dr. Nyman to our community. Her leadership and experience in fundraising, philanthropy and marketing are tremendous assets as we move towards the next phase in our major fundraising effort, Defy the Conventional: The Campaign for uOttawa.
I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my deep appreciation to the members of the selection committee for their time and commitment to the University of Ottawa.
