The Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) and the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CAFA) are pleased to present the second online event of the Dialogues & Knowledge Series:

Teaching science in Venezuela and the world in the era of AI
Dialogues & Knowledge is a series of virtual talks created by Professor Isaac Nahon-Serfaty with Venezuelan scholars and researchers in Venezuela and abroad about the future of research and university education in the country, the challenges local professors are facing, their efforts to continue teaching and doing research, and the opportunities of collaboration that exist with the Venezuelan academic diaspora around the world.
The second event of the series will take place with science professors, graduates of the Universidad Central de Venezuela, one of whom still teaches there.

Professor Génesis González
Department of Physiochemistry, Universidad Central de Venezuela
University professor in the physiochemistry department and researcher in the area of physiochemistry of hydrocarbons (specifically asphaltenes) and their interaction with silicon oxide nanoparticles, with the objective of improving the properties of the parent crude oil. Full-time instructor professor, School of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences, Universidad Central de Venezuela. PhD in Chemistry. University of Pau and Adour countries (UPPA), Pau, France. Doctorate in co-tutelage between UPPA and UCV, in the framework of a cooperation between the universities through the Marcel Roche Network. PhD in Chemistry, Universidad Central de Venezuela (thesis defense is estimated for February 2023). Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Universidad Central de Venezuela.

Professor Solmar Varela
Visiting Professor, TU Dresden
Solmar A. Varela S. obtained her degree in Physics at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in 2009, with a recognition for her high academic performance during her studies. In 2010, she started working as a Assistant Professor in the Physics Department of the Faculty of Sciences at UCV, where she held her position until 2017, at the same time she was pursuing her Postgraduate studies, obtaining her Doctoral degree in Sciences, mention in Physics in 2016.
Since January 2023, Solmar has been a visiting professor in the Eleonore Trefftz program for teaching and research at TU Dresden.
