Advertising standards

Policy 34: Mandate of the Communications Directorate, provides some guiding principles for advertising standards on the Web.

Corporate standard regarding online advertising

The Communications Directorate approves all final advertisements. A copy of any advertisement (via a URL) should be sent to for verification.

  • Advertising may not appear on the first page of the University website, nor can ads appear on the first page of a faculty or service website.
  • The name of an external organization may be present on secondary pages of a University website in the form of hyperlink text leading to the advertisement.
  • A sponsor page containing the logo of an external organization can be created.

Working with traditional media

Content providers must ensure that their own internal marketing efforts are promoted in concert with those in traditional media. Consult the Communications Directorate for recommendations on possible strategies for using the Web as part of a larger communications plan.
