Mini panels: Creating a Mini panel

The following tutorial will teach you how to create your first Mini panel. For help on editing an already existing Mini panel, refer to the article "Mini panels: Editing an existing Mini panel".

For the purpose of this tutorial, you will need to have webmaster-level access or higher.

Step 1: Setting up the Mini panel

  1. Navigate to Structure, and then Mini panels.
  2. At the top of the page, click on the link Add to start creating your first Mini panel.

Step 2: Settings

  1. On the first page that appears (Settings), you will see the following three fields:
    • Administrative title: This is the title of your Mini panel. In general, we recommend that you name your Mini panels following this format: "Page name - Element name - Mini panel". See the article "Naming conventions for snippet labels, mini panels, etc." for details.
    • Administrative description: The description is not necessary, but can be filled out to provide details about its content to yourself or to other users.
    • Category: Ignore this field.
  2. Once done, click on the button "Continue".

Step 3: Context

You can safely ignore this entire section and click immediately on "Continue".

Step 4: Layout

You will be asked to choose the layout of the Mini panel you are creating. To do so:

  1. First select the number of rows you need from the "Category" dropdown list.
  2. Next, select a layout from the list of available options. Layouts that marked with "RTL" simply mean that, on mobile, the content of each column will collapse from right to left, rather the left to right.
  3. Once done, click on "Continue" to proceed to the next step.

Step 5: Content

At the last step of the process, you will see a couple options as well as an outline of your layout.

  1. To start, you can completely ignore the fields "Title type" and "Title".
  2. Next, click on the top-left gear icon of one of the layout regions. A dropdown list will appear.
  3. From the dropdown list, select "Add content". A window will appear from which you will be able to add items such as snippets, widgets, dynamic content lists, other mini panels, etc.
  4. When you are done adding and placing content, click on the button Finish to save your Mini panel.
