Creating a Local footer for contact information

Scenario

You would like a local footer to appear with contact information on all of your pages.

Website footer

Footer consisting of a mini panel with a BH layout. The mini panel depicted
above comprises one row with one content snippet for the H5 title, and a
second row with two content snippets and one social media widget.

Step 1: Create the pieces of content

  1. Think of the footer as a mini panel that is attached as a block to your website. Begin by creating the different pieces of text content you would like to display on your footer by choosing “Content” from the admin menu. At the top-right of the page, click on the tab called “Snippets” and then on the link “+ Add Content Snippet”.
    • Add a descriptive title in the Title field.
    • Add the necessary content in the Body field.
    • Make sure you provide a Label for the content snippet so that it will be easily recognisable (e.g. “Footer – Contact”, “Footer – Office Hours”, etc.).

Step 2: Add the pieces of content to a mini panel

  1. Once all your content snippets are created, you need to add them to a mini panel. Navigate to “Structure” > “Mini Panels”, and then click on the link “+ Add”. Choose a title for the mini panel. Click on “Continue”.
  2. You can safely ignore the Context page and click on “Continue” again.
  3. At the next step, choose a layout (typically layout BH or H). The layout will represent the disposition of your different pieces of content, so choose it accordingly. Once done, click on “Continue”.
  4. The final step will allow you to add content in the different sections of the mini panel’s layout. Click on the top-left gear icon of the desired panel location and select “Add Content” from the dropdown menu. A new window will appear:
    • Under content, select “Content Snippet” and choose the snippet you created in step 1.
    • Set the “View Mode” to “Content Body” and then click on “Finish”.
    • No styling needs to be applied to the content for the footer.
  5. Repeat the above step as necessary.

Note: To add Social media icons as in the image above, the module “Social Media Sharing” needs to be enabled. When adding content to the mini panel, you’ll find the widget under “uOttawa Social” > “Social Media”.

Step 3: Add the mini panel to the site layout’s footer

  1. As mentioned before, this will be considered a block, so navigate back to “Structure” and then “Blocks”.
  2. Find the mini panel you just created.
  3. In the dropdown menu to the right of the mini panel’s name, select “Local Footer”.
  4. Scroll to the very bottom of the page and click on the button “Save Blocks”. Your new local footer will now appear on all the pages you have created and will automatically be displayed on any new pages you wish to create.
